OFSTED is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. Through regular inspections, and informed advice, Ofsted aims to achieve excellence in the quality of Education in Schools. These inspections are in place to identify strengths and weaknesses so that childcare providers can improve the quality of educational provision and ensure all children achieve the Early Learning Goals.
OFSTED does not report to Government Ministers but directly to Parliament. This is to ensure that the information it provides is impartial. An Ofsted inspector’s findings are published in a report, together with information about the childcare provider. An inspection report provides information about the effectiveness of the provider’s work, informs a parent what the provider does well, and contains recommendations about what the childcare provider should do to improve the care they provide.
